Local Artist Inspires NPE Students During Visit
Tuesday, June 13, 2017
When Oswego artist Dennis Pullen recently visited with students at Nate Perry Elementary, he shared words that everyone should live by - “I don’t let anything stop me from doing what I want to do.”
Pullen, a quadriplegic who uses a ventilator to breathe, spoke with NPE kindergarten through sixth-grade students about his life and shared stories about the obstacles he has overcome since being struck by a car when he was 7 years old.
The artist also showed students how he uses his mouth to paint. Each piece of art, Pullen noted, takes between six months to a year to complete. The students then experienced painting the same way he does by trying to paint with their mouths.
Pullen met with NPE students during their classes with art teacher Christina Cutlip.
