Non-Medical Immunization Exemptions No Longer Allowed
Tuesday, July 23, 2019
In June 2019, the New York State Legislature amended the state’s laws governing immunizations for school children. This amendment eliminated religious exemptions from immunizations and took effect immediately.
For the 2019-2020 school year, all students must receive immunizations as required by New York State Health Law, unless the student’s parent/guardian can obtain a certification from a treating physician that the required immunization(s) would be detrimental to the child’s health.
Required immunizations must be received no later than 14 days after the first day of school (for the Liverpool Central School District that day is Thursday, September 5, 2019). Within 30 days of the first day of school, a parent/guardian must show that appointments have been made for the student to receive all required follow-up doses of the immunizations. A student will be excluded from school without the required certificate/appointments.
Additional information regarding immunization requirements can be found on the LCSD Web site . Questions can be directed to the school’s nurse or building principal.
Immunizations may be scheduled with a student’s pediatrician. Immunizations also are available to all uninsured students in grades K-12 who reside in Onondaga County. For more information, contact the Immunization Clinic at the Civic Center, 421 Montgomery Street (Room 30), Syracuse, or call 315-435-2000.
